Camp NaNoWriMo Update: Days 5-9

Between a few days off, a roadtrip and a holiday, the writing still continued smoothly, even though we entered the dreaded week 2!

April 5th

Today was an interesting day. I didn’t start writing until the evening, after a wonderful massage and a nice long hot

bath. I finally had some self care after my long stretch of work days, and it helped. I now have a somewhat loose outline for the main project I want to work on for Camp NaNoWriMo. I wrote a little bit in everything and worked on some blog posts and an outline. Overall a decent writing day.

April 6th

I woke up early, despite not having to work, and got my words in early in the morning. I did some homework, and worked on my main project in the evening. Overall, a productive day both writing wise and in everything else too.

April 7th

Writing was split up quite a bit today. A few rushed words in the morning in a few projects, then the rest of it at work. I was hoping to get more words today, since I’m off for a weekend away tomorrow, but beggars can’t be choosers. I did get words in everything and some homework done before the weekend, so really I could it as a win.

April 8th

Road trip! For most of the day, my fiancé and I drove up to Sacramento to see John Mayer in concert. I got a little writing in the car, but writing definitely was not my priority for the weekend. Still, I managed to get a few sentences in all that I could.

April 9th

Happy Easter! Another day spent in the car, this time driving home from Sacramento. A very enjoyable roadtrip with the man I love, but once again writing wasn’t a priority. Homework was, and that gave me a pretty good buffer of words once I got home, but not the best writing day.

Camp NaNoWriMo Update Days 1-4

Here we are again in April during Camp NaNoWriMo. Usually I do pretty well in November, and April and July mostly suffer, but I’m hoping to blog every day (or if not every few days) to keep myself accountable for the month.

So far, the writing year has been good to me. I’m hoping to keep that momentum up in April. With any luck, it will be the best month yet.

Here’s the breakdown of the first few days of Camp NaNoWriMo April 2023

April 1st

Overall, a good day. A Saturday, and homework is always due on the weekends, so that means words. Do I like counting words for homework? No, but it does give me a little buffer. It’s a work day too, so that means a decent amount of downtime to get a few words down. I made sure I got words in almost everything I’m tallying this month, which is, a lot. Except I didn’t get any words in the current editing project, nor in the project I am aiming to make the most progress in for Camp NaNo. There is always tomorrow!

WC: 1,445

April 2nd

Once again, homework is important to complete and means more words. Other than that, yet another work day (Day 3/5), which means a few sentences here and there in EVERYTHING this time, plus a little extra when I can. The writing bug has struck and I’m excited for the month!

WC: 2,282

April 3rd

The first Monday of April and oh man did it feel like it. No work done before I left for work (day 4/5!) which meant a lot of fumbling on my phone for words. Still managed to write a little in every project, thankfully, and that was it on the Most Monday feeling Monday.

WC: 1,006

April 4th

Tuesday, I managed to get a lot of words down before work (Day 5/5; I am ready for a few days off!), which means the undeniable tension to write has faded. Writing on a keyboard/laptop is so much nicer than pecking on a phone, though I have been known to do both. Due to some tech/syncing issues, the work I did at home did not sync to my work devices until after I got home. I could have done more work, but tech issues did not help.

WC: 1,440

Not too bad for the first few days of April. Better than I expected, quite honestly, with as disgusting as April has been in the past few years.

I hope I can keep it up over the rest of the month!

July Results and August Goals

July has been a wild month, with several trips, loads of homework and a day job, it’s a wonder I had time to get any creative projects done. Still, I made a good effort in all of my creative endeavors.

Here’s how I did:

July Results

Write One Short Story

In July I finished one short story and a couple of other short stories in a few anthologies I’ve been working on since 2016. I made it an informal goal of mine to write at least a little bit in every project I have open when the opportunity presented itself and I’m glad that I can keep the works open and going and even exciting.

Camp NaNoWrimo

As is with the case with edits, I never seem to get enough done in the time alotted. I did make some strides to get some edits done. There were days when I would get a ton of work done and move through the story with ease, but some days were like pulling teeth. I love the story and I’m still pushing through for edits, even though Camp NaNoWriMo is now over. As for the word count for Camp NaNo, I only really got about half way where I wanted to be.

NYC Midnight 100 Word Microfiction Challenge Round Three

Unfortunately, I didn’t place in the second round of the challenge so I could not continue on to round three. I did however receive some good feedback on the work I submitted, so I am happy with the results.

This month, we took several trips to the lake, a trip down to Los Angeles to see Dear Evan Hansen (cried my eyes out), and a last minute trip to a funeral out of state. The class I’m currently in for school has a lot of papers to write and a lot of in-depth work, which meant there was a lot of writing for homework, but not as much time as I would have liked for creativity. Still, I’m getting closer to the end of my program, with a projected graduation date of August of 2023.

August Goals

Write One Short Story

In July, I actually didn’t write a short story specific to July. I finished the short story from June and worked on some anthology pieces, but with all the extra projects I’ve been doing for the NYC Midnight challenges and everything else, I already have something like 11 short projects done this year. I would like to start a short story this month, specifically dedicated to August, but we’ll see how the month goes.

Continue Edits on Book One

I started editing book one and so far so good. I would like to dedicate more time to edits in August and get further through the edits. It will have to come down to finding balance to take the time to sit and edit.

Mini 1000 Words of Summer

In June, I participated in Jami Attenburg’s 1000 Words of Summer. I found out there will be a miniature version for a week in August and I’m hoping to use it to get some good work done in August and perhaps get the push I need to find that creative spark again.

NYC Midnight’s Flash Fiction Second Round

The second round of NYC Midnight’s Flash Fiction Contest takes place during the second week of August. I’m excited to get my prompt, excited to spend a weekend writing something completely new from scratch and excited to get some more creativity flowing.

June Results and July Goals

June has been the most amazing month for the first time in a long time. I’ve had several writing successes in the last month, along with successes in school and life in general. I hope I can keep it up as we roll into July.

Here’s how I did in June.

June Results

Write One Short Story/Finish the short story from May

I wrote one short story in the form of the Flash Fiction contest. I also finished the short story from May after waffling on it for a few weeks, and started another short story which I hope to finish in the next month or so.

NYC Midnight’s Flash Fiction Challenge

This year, I really enjoyed round one of the challenge. It has been so nice writing something short and sweet with a 48 hour deadline. I love the feedback and the opportunity to edit through and improve with every challenge. I’m excited I was able to get it done and submit a great story.

BONUS Result #1: NYC Midnight’s Microfiction Challenge

I actually forgot about the microfiction contest for NYC Midnight. I placed 13th, which meant I got to write in the second round the week after the Flash Fiction challenge. 100 words is a lot harder to write than 1000, as strange as it sounds, especially with a genre like romance, but I made it through and submitted a story.

Finish the 2021 NaNoWriMo Novel

Finally, after eight long months of working, I can finally say the first draft is finished! Writing a thousand words a day for nearly every day in June really helped push the story along . I was really able to enjoy the plot and the characters again and reach the finish line. Now it’s time to go back to book one in the series and get some edits done.

Bonus Result #2: 1000 Words of Summer

As a substack reader, I found out about Jami Attenburg’s 1000 Words of Summer, where the goal is to write 1000 words every day for 2 weeks. I was able to use it to work through the last few chapters of the 2021 NaNoWriMo novel. I was so inspired by the challenge, and felt so accomplished with 1000 words a day that I have a new goal for the rest of the year (once I’m done with editing).

Along with my other goals in June, I also finished another class for my Bachelor’s in English. I celebrated another birthday and I’ve begun to be more conscious about my health. Making the shift from writing new content to editing has been a bit difficult, but it’s getting easier the more I attempt.

July Goals

Write One Short Story

Even though I haven’t always finished the short stories within the month I make it a goal, I really am enjoying the process of writing a short story in a month. I’ve already done at least 8 for the calendar year if I count the submissions for NYC Midnight’s competitions, and I plan to keep it up for the rest of the year. Maybe I’ll even catch up and do more than one in a month.

Camp NaNoWrimo

For Camp NaNoWriMo this year, I want to edit the first book in the current series I’m writing. Now that I’ve finished the 2021 NaNoWriMo novel, I would like to go back to book one and get edits done. I’m over halfway through with hand edits and then it’s time to start typing it up and making it look pretty. My goal for Camp NaNoWriMo is 30,000 words edited, but as usual, I’m always pushing for more.

What goals do you have for July?

March Results and April Goals

March has been absolutely crazy, with a lot of weird and bad news. It seemed like everything seemed to consipire against me completing my goals and making progress on anything really. The whole month of March was not a good writing month, or even a good school month, and I felt like I was just spinning my wheels and waiting for the next setback.

March Results

Write One Short Story

The short story started out so well at the beginning of the month. Then, I had my first non-writing day in 277 days. After that, the short story seemed to flounder and then stay on the back burner for school and work and anything and everything else.

Finish My 2021 NaNoWriMo Project

It wasn’t in the cards this month to finish my 2021 NaNoWriMo Project. With hectic schedules, more in-depth homework assignments and new stressors, it just wasn’t the month to finish anything. I’m hoping to take a break and come back to it fresh in the next couple months.

Attend a Writing Conference Online

This goal is actually one I have been able to somewhat complete. While I didn’t actually attend any of the live conference, I am able to watch the recordings and gain the knowledge from them. I am excited to gain more knowledge from this conference and learn all I can.

In March, I read three books that I honestly did not think would be my cup of tea, but pleasantly surprised me. I didn’t really think I would like spicy adult romances with smut in 90% of the chapters, but the story sucked me in and I couldn’t put it down. Unfortunately, it adversely affected my writing time, so I aim to find a balance over the next few months.

March was quite a tough month. I got some bad news regarding a beloved family pet, Hazel, and the last bit of the month was touch and go as far as everything goes. She turns 14 today, and I am hoping to give her the best birthday ever. Please, if any of you have pets, give them a nice cuddle or a treat and show them you love them.

April Goals

Finish/Write One Short Story

I have to say, I really enjoyed the short story I was writing for March before everything went to pot. It is a really strong idea and I want to see it done, and possibly work on the second half of the story in April. I’m hoping to get back into my routine of writing daily again, especially since March was so hectic and not a good writing month at all.

Camp NaNoWriMo

This year, for Camp NaNoWriMo, I’m not planning on working on one project, but multiple. A short story, a memoir or two, poetry, edits. Anything and everything, I am counting toward Camp NaNoWriMo, and I’m hoping to have some fun with it.

Poetry

April is National Poetry Month, and I’m hoping to get a small piece of poetry written every day to encourage the habit of writing every day again. Who knows? Some of it might even be half decent.

NYC Midnight’s 100 Word Microfiction Challenge

I’ve signed up for the Challenge and I’m really hoping that at 100 words I can find some time to get it done between homework and all of the other creative projects I have going on. Here’s hoping I can make it happen.

I’m really hoping April is a better month than March was, for multiple reasons.

March Results and April Goals

Wow! March flew by in a flurry of days and I can’t believe we’re already in April!

March Results:

Continue Edits on BOOK A

Editing was quite a slow process through March. There were several other projects going, not to mention a bunch of work and personal life changes. Some days it was so hard to just sit and edit when I could be doing so much more. Slow progress is still progress and I’m further than I was when the month started. I’m happy with any progress at this point.

Continue to work on Open Projects

Unfortunately, none of the projects I wanted to finish this month got finished. Excellent progress was made on some days, and other days it was a complete stand still. Progress was slow, but I still had more words than I did when the month started, so I am definitely not complaining in the least. Hopefully in April I can finally get a schedule down that works better for me and my writing goals.

Attend a Writing Conference Online

So this goal was very interesting. I didn’t actually attend anything live, because that week just happened to be the busiest week in March (Go figure!). Lucky for me, everything was recorded and I have 6 months to watch it all. Slowly but surely I’m listening to the presentations as I do my daily walks and get a little exercise in too! I’m learning so many new things and I’m so excited I’m able to access it and still learn even though I wasn’t able to attend.

Prepare for Camp NaNoWriMo

For a brief moment, I wasn’t sure I would get to participate in Camp NaNoWriMo this year. Luckily, an idea came to me and I began to plot it (as much as I can without itching to write it too much) and I made a beautiful cover.

In March I completed quite a few things that were not quite writing goal related:

I went to a castle (thankfully local and hidden away) for a much needed vacation and celebrated and relaxed in a way I haven’t in quite a long time. I haven’t relaxed that much since I started working. It was so wonderful to go and have fun and let loose a little. The time away really put a lot of things into perspective for me, and now I have a bit more direction when looking forward to the future.

I finished A Court of Silver Flames by Sarah J. Maas. What a much needed reading break! I’m one of those readers that once I start a good book, I can’t put it down until I finish it. This book was such a nice change from the crazy work stuff going on and a great lesson on certain aspects that I would like to add into my own writing.

As for other things, I mentioned last month that I was having a lot of changes at work and that was definitely an understatement. As of March 31st, I quit my old job. At the beginning of April, I start a brand new job. Same field, same degree, but way different hours and different responsibilities. I’m really hoping this new job will help with the work life balance that’s been lacking more and more since I started working night shift.

I have also started the process of applying for my bachelors degree. I made an attempt in 2017-2019, but with job changes and new stresses of night shift, I had to pull out of it. I’m two classes away from a BSN, but nursing doesn’t make me happy and the 2 years of that program were practically torture. If I am spending money and furthering my degree, I want to do it in something I absolutely love. I’m looking at getting my bachelor’s degree in creative writing, and I’m hoping to get started in the next few months.

April Goals

Camp NaNoWriMo

Camp NaNoWriMo is here once more! I’m excited to start a new project (along with my new job) and get the creative juices flowing again. This year for Camp NaNoWriMo, I’m writing a piece called The Hollow Opus and I am so excited for it. I first got the idea for it in January, but haven’t been able to plot it out until March.

The dancer in the snow globe has always watched him from the time he was a small boy. As he grew up into a man, something bloomed within her. She would give anything to be human and stay with him forever, but when the magic goes wrong, they must work together to go under the bed and find the Toy Master and make things right.

Round Two of the Short Story Competition

Round one of the Short Story Competition was in January and I had fun, even though it was a genre I have never written in before. I’m hoping my writing was good enough and I get to advance to round two, so keep your fingers crossed. I should know the first week in April and round two takes place the second weekend in April. If not, then that gives me more time to work on other projects that weren’t finished in the first few months of the year.

Continue edits on BOOK A

I had wanted to finish edits for BOOK A by this month, but that simply didn’t happen, so now I’m pushing through it and letting it go at its own pace. As much as I would like for edits to be done as fast as possible, some of them need time to breathe, so I’m making my way through slowly. If I get through at least a page of my outline, I’ll be happy with that. Even if I do less, that is still more progress and is better than nothing.

Send Out Something Small for Publishing

I have several short stories I’ve written over the last few years, and quite honestly I’ve been surprised at the quality as I go through and edit them. Hopefully this month I’ll be able to send at least one (maybe more) out for publishing and see what happens.

Wish me luck!

July Results and August Goals

July has been one hectic month, but thankfully it is finally over. Here are the results:

•Camp NaNoWriMo

I managed to get a total of 35,140 for the month of July and hit my goal of 35K, but just barely.

•Flash Fiction Contest

The first round is complete and submitted, even though it was terrifying to try something new. Keep a look out for a full post on that later.

•Finish Edits on Book One of the series.

I made excellent progress in my editing goals this month, but the book still isn’t totally finished. I got stuck in the middle yet again, but I’m extending my deadline one more time. Unfortunately, this will not be the last round of edits like I had hoped, but it’s getting closer.

•Continue to blog

A few things have come back, and are appearing here and there. I’m working on building a better schedule, so stay tuned.

August Goals

•Finish edits on book one.

I’m only giving myself until August 15th to finish these edits. Four chapters to go!

•Flash Fiction Contest

Round Two is the end of August and I’m super excited for it.

•Reading at least one book

Recently, I’ve begun reading more and I have forgotten how much I’ve enjoyed it. Stay tuned, there may be a few book reviews coming up.

•More Blogging

This should be a given, but I have a lot of things to blog about and I’m going to get more out there.

Stay tuned for more!

Writer Life Lesson #27: Make Writing Work For You

Most of us who call ourselves writers are often more than just writers. We have day jobs, hobbies, families, pets, and probably a thousand possibilities for distraction every second of every day. Sometimes, writing can seem impossible.

This last month, I wrote for Camp NaNoWriMo and for the first two thirds of the month, I struggled. I was thousands of words behind on my goals and writing wasn’t working, so I found time and I made it work.

How I did that was to Make Writing Work For Me (not the other way around).

Making writing work for you is possible when you do what is best for you.

For instance, I knew I had signed up for Camp NaNoWriMo with one project, but I knew I needed to finish a draft of a novel, so I tried working on both, but it wasn’t working, so I put one aside and worked until I finished the draft.

Another way you can make writing work for you is to follow what advice works for you best.

There is all kinds of writing advice out there for new writers, and honestly not all of it is the greatest. If you can write every day AND stay focused on one project for long periods of time AND make a writing schedule AND everything else that is popular writing advice, good for you! I’ve tried it, and I’ve beat myself up when I can’t do it, and that only makes writing seem more like a chore.

Sometimes I follow the advice, and sometimes I don’t. That’s how I make writing work for me.

Writing should be fun! It’s your writing craft, so make it work for you.

April Results and May Goals

Well, another month of writing and goals done. April is always a bit of a tough month for me, with difficult anniversaries, but it ended up working out well in the end.

Goals from April:

  • Camp NaNoWriMo: 40,180
  • Ghost House Heart: 14,770
  • I finished Under Grey Skies with a total of 138,799 words and 11,247 words of notes. ( with 24,501 words during Camp NaNo)

Goals for May

  • Continue Ghost House Heart
  • Start Editing previous books in the series
  • Write 30,000 words of anything and everything (Look out for new blog content!)
This month was hit and miss to start, but in the end I smashed goals!
Finally, after months, this beast is complete.

Camp NaNoWriMo News

Hello Everyone! April is just around the corner, and that means Camp NaNoWriMo!

This year, I’m working on two projects. Finishing up my project from NaNoWriMo 2019, and starting a new project.

Under Grey Skies: Doing my best to finish up my 2019 NaNo Novel by the end of April.

Book Nine of the LOVED series.

Earth: There are no more children to save. There are no more lost souls to wake. Everything should be perfect, but Jared has disappeared, and Qu has been set to wander the earth. The only person that can stop him is Emily. Chasing Qu, she runs into someone she never expected.

Widren: With Qu gone, the island and the city have become what they were meant to be, a paradise. Randa must find the boy, but no one can help her. He’s a mystery that might just stay a mystery forever.

He was always in the background, never thought of himself as anything special, but she saw him.

GOAL: Write “The End”

—–

Ghost House Heart: Death is only the beginning. When Blanche loses her fiance in a tragic accident, she thinks there is nothing left for her. Until she learns there may be a way to bring him back. Now she will do anything to bring him back, even if it means risking her own life.

GOAL: 30,000 words.

This Camp NaNoWriMo will definitely be interesting, since I’ve never worked on two projects at full speed like this before and even with the chaos of the world, I’m still working full time.

Wish me luck!

(There’s still time to join me for Camp NaNoWriMo Here, just create a project and link it to the event. I’m always looking for more buddies, this is Me.)

February Results and March Goals

Wow, compared to January, February seemed to take forever, and March is already flying by in a blur.

In February 2020:

  • Wrote 6,396 words in various projects
  • Wrote a Short Story, BY HAND!

Unfortunately, I didn’t do much else as far as writing goes. Sometimes, other things in the world come first before my writing and this month, my health affected me in a big way. Breaking news, it is alright for other things to come before writing sometimes. I plan to make March a better month for writing and goals.

Goals for March 2020:

  • Finish Under Grey Skies (I mean it this time!)
    • I have several chapters left, a direction and a plot, I just need to put my butt in the chair and get writing.
  • Prepare for Camp NaNoWriMo in April.
    • I have an idea, some plotting done and a cover created. Let’s see how far I get before the burn to write strikes again.
  • Write another short story by hand
    • New goal that I came up with in the middle of last month. There is just something so freeing about writing by hand (even if it skews my monthly writing totals).

Stay tuned for updates during the month!

July Update #1

Camp NaNoWriMo is in full swing.

I set my goal for 25K and told myself I would write every single day this month.

Well, on July 10th, I hit 25K.

I hit 25K in 10 days, and there’s still 21 days left in July.

So I have now increased my goal to 60K for July but I’m hoping I’ll get more words than that.

Stay tuned for more updates!

Camp NaNoWriMo Update

Yes, I am doing Camp NaNo this July.

I’m working on several projects.

Writing-

Little Earthquakes- Based on the first album by the lovely Tori Amos, the story follows a young woman as she tries to navigate several disasters that threaten to destroy her dream of being a dancer.

The Schemes of VKs (Descendants fanfiction)- A prequel to Just One Kiss. The story of how Mal and Ben got together after the love spell and the repercussions.

The Weight of Your Lips (Descendants fanfiction)- The sequel to Just One Kiss. What happens after Ben and Mal share that spectacular kiss.

Editing-

Girl Disappearing- Book One in the LOVED series. Jared’s fight for Emily when she can’t fight for herself. Randa’s fight for Widren with Marvel and Xander. Two worlds hang in the balance.

Just One Kiss (Descendants Fanfiction)- Ben made a promise without realizing it. Can he and Mal navigate the summer without disastrous consequences?

I am pretty busy this July. All of this, with work and volunteering. Though so far I am having a lot of fun.

Writer Life Lesson #14: Restarting, Rewriting and Picking it up Again.

Writing is not easy. Anyone who has had to write anything will tell you that. It doesn’t matter if it’s an essay, or a short story, or a novel, or even an email. Getting the words and images from your head to the page is sometimes the hardest thing writers do. Sometimes the words on the psge don’t match our vision of our work. So what do we do about that?

If you’ve ever written anything, I’m sure you’ve crossed something out, backspaced, or even torn pages out or deleted the file entirely. This is normal for writers, and it does not make you any less of a writer for doing so. If you’re anything like me, you’ve probably just stopped a piece altogether and have never since returned. This is completely normal too.

This week’s lesson has to do with restarting, rewriting, and picking up where you left off.

Life happens. There are things that we writers cannot avoid. You think you have the day to write and then you remember that the house is a mess, the in laws are in town, and the rent is overdue. Life gets in the way of writing. Or if you’re like me, school gets in the way, an essay is due, your finals are sneaking up on you, and you’re three weeks behind on the reading. And all you wanted to do was write. It starts as just one day, then it becomes a week, and then a month, and before you know it you can’t remember the last day you wrote, or blogged, or tweeted.

Sometimes it’s so long that you look at your work and can’t remember where you were going with it, or you hate that you added a scene with vampires because your little cousin wanted to watch all of the Twilight movies. Writing changes as we do. It’s fluid and changing, until it’s published.

My point?

You are not a quitter if you decide to restart or rewrite or let the piece go

This lesson comes to mind since it is pretty personal to me. I have so many pieces that I start and never finish. I have something like 12 or more novels started that I have not finished or even reached the halfway point in. Some of these are products of NaNoWriMo, Script Frenzy, and Camp NaNoWriMo (Which the July session started on Wednesday). I have been thinking about what I wanted to write for weeks almost. Do I want to start something new, or try and restart or rewrite something else? Am I breaking the rules if I continue a story I’ve already started?

I decided that Camp NaNoWriMo is my catch all. I start too many projects and have lofty writing goals for 2015 and to complete my goals there has to be a few catch up months. Camp NaNo is a way for me to continue my writing goals and be held accountable for my word count. I have decided that for Camp NaNoWriMo, I am going to catch up on the short stories I have yet to write this year, the short stories I started in the April Camp session, and the rest of book two as well. I will have no shortage of opportunities for words, and I hope no shortage of inspiration either.

As long as you keep writing, you can’t be called a quitter. So keep writing and reach your goals!

And if you want to join me in the July session of Camp NaNoWriMo: Here

Camp NaNoWriMo: Final Results

April is swiftly drawing to a close and I’m sure many writers out there are pushing to make their final word counts. I am usually one of them, but not this month.

For some reason, this month was just not meant for writing and that’s perfectly fine. Maybe it was because I had been pushing so hard to write everyday in January, February and March to write every day and I just  needed a break. Maybe it was the events surrounding this month. Maybe it was just a combination of everything just telling me “Slow down!”

I originally planned on writing something completely new to get in the mood to finish my current works. Writing was starting to become more of a chore than a hobby and I was having trouble getting into the writing mood to find that passion to finish my novel. So I started a series of thirteen short stories based on an album. A change of pace.

I finished one. ONE! In this entire month, but I am perfectly fine with that. I wrote when I felt the need to, and I pushed myself to finish it today so I can start fresh in May.

I ended up with just over 7000 words, but that is better than the 0 I started with at the beginning of the month. 7000 words is a start, and it’s something I can work with the next time I need a break from my novel and my series. I created great characters that should be easy to get back into.

Thanks Camp NaNoWriMo April!

Camp NaNoWriMo Progress: Week One

The first week of Camp NaNoWriMo is unfortunately not going so well. I only have about 5K words when I should have at least three times that. But that’s ok! Because I am learning things I never thought I would, and I am taking a break from my year long attempt at a novel for a while.

I hope Camp NaNoWriMo is going better for the rest of you. I shall be trying to catch up eventually.

Happy Writing!

How is Camp going for you?

What I’m Writing: Camp NaNoWriMo

This year, in both April and July, hundreds of thousands of people will be writing a novel in a month. Each one of those hundreds of thousands of people will write their own novel, whether it be five pages or five hundred. Fingers will be flying, pens will be scribbling and writers will be writing.

I will be one of those writers, and I finally have my plan for this April. This will actually be my first serious attempt at Camp NaNoWriMo that is not a rewrite, or that doesn’t coincide with finals, or resesrch papers. Plainly, this is the first April where I will have time to write what I want, and give it the attention it needs.

So what am I writing this April?

The Thirteenth Step

Details are still a bit sketchy, like names and details. The basic premise is a med student who falls down the spiral of addiction after turning to selling drugs to pay tuition.

Stay tuned for updates!

Are you going to try Camp NaNoWriMo this April? What are you writing?
